The little black dress. Something every girl needs tucked into her wardrobe. Whether thats a short slinky strappy number or something that harks to the eras of old is irrelevant. As long as she feels incredible when she puts it on, that’s all that matters with a little black dress is that when its put on that woman feelings top of her game. I’ve said before I’m not one for black dresses, normally opting for colour instead. But I must admit I’ve long been on the hunt for that perfect 1940s little black number and I’ve finally found it in the Willow dress from Stop Staring Clothing!
As I’ve said in previous posts featuring Stop Staring, this amazing brand was actually one of my first pinup dresses ever. I’ve long loved this brand for its high quality, longevity, fit and style. I’ve been hunting for that perfect black 1940s dress for a few years now but with my pear shape its often hard to find true vintage to accommodate my hips. But the Willow Dress is without a doubt the perfect solution, offering a comfortable fit for my figure while giving that timeless styling of the 1940s.
The Willow features a short sleeve trimmed with a flowy trim in the same fabric as the dress, which gives a flattering coverage to the upper arms. These sleeves aren’t tight or firm either and allow ample movement for girls who carry weight here. The high neckline makes the Willow ideal for retro/vintage loving ladies who work in corporate or office environments as well as making it a great dress for those more formal social functions!
For girls who also have a bit of a tummy, the Willow features a gorgeous bow detail at the waist and a peplum to help smooth your bumpy areas. I particularly love this feature as some days my body bloats more than others and this can help me still feel banging even when my body isn’t necessarily playing ball!
The Willow isn’t made of the same bengaline as some of my other Stop Staring styles which means it has more structure and the fabric less give. I’m still able to comfortably wear the XL in this style, however if you do have a larger bust or a fuller bottom keep that in mind when ordering your willow! The fastens with a back zip which is easy to do and doesn’t catch.
The block black colour of the Willow also makes it a versatile piece to style! For this shoot I went with some classic pieces that lend themselves to a dressier look. A full triple rose piece for my hair, silver hoops, black velvet 40s heels and this gorgeous perfume bottle brooch from Bel Air Baby.
I hope you’ve all enjoyed this review! The gorgeous Willow Dress is $163US/$211AUD + postage. But I can attest that Stop Staring are definitely worth it, as I’m still wearing Stop Staring dresses I purchased second hand a few years ago!
Til next time darlings!
