Hostess Magic with Pretty Retro from Aussie Stockist Call me Valerie

Do you have a style of dress that no matter what, you just keep on coming back to? As I’ve moved through my 20s and reached 30, my obsession with blouses and ‘shirt’ style dresses has definitely reached its peak. So naturally, when one of my favorite 1940s enabling stores got in this stunning wine shirt dress, I just knew I had to add it to my wardrobe.

For those not familiar with either of these awesome stores, let me fill in the blanks. Pretty Retro is the ‘budget’ friendly sister brand of House of Foxy. I now have a number of amazing dresses from Pretty Retro and actually find them to be on par with House of Foxy in terms of quality and fit without such a high price point. Call me Valerie is an amazing one woman small business who stocks Pretty Retro (along with many other awesome 1940s-50s style brands) and I was so pleased to see her get this dress in, as my current obsession with Wine colours goodies has been in full swing.

So now lets talk about the stunning Hostess dress. This gorgeous garment has a side zip and those gorgeous front buttons are functional and not just pretty decoration. I simply ADORE the winged collar and while the skirt is very full the drop sits so nicely that it doesn’t require a petticoat which is something I love. This dress with its modest cut also makes it a great day to night dress: perfect for a day in the office and with a little tweaking of accessories for an evening look too.

This gorgeous dress is made of a Poly/Viscose/Spandex blend so it does have some stretch and I can comfortably wear it laced into a corset as above or all-natural with just a bra and underwear too. I’m wearing the size 16 which is my go-to size for Pretty Retro dresses. I will note that the arms were a bit firm initially but with wear they loosen quickly.

This gorgeous Hostess dress is just $135AU + postage from Call Me Valerie. Yes that’s not a typo. Only $135! Call me Valerie also have afterpay available if that’s your jam. I hope you’ve enjoyed this review, you can expect more reviews coming with gorgeous goodies from this Aussie Stockist over the next few months too! If you loved my New Zealand holiday wardrobe from December 2019 you should definitely check out her store as most of those 40s looks came from her.

Til next time darlings
